Your First Breath
Underwater

You do not need a certification, experience, or even great swimming skills to dive the Exumas. Here is exactly how a complete first-timer takes the plunge: safely, comfortably, and with a grin.

The first time you breathe underwater, something rewires in your brain. You are suspended in clear blue water, fish drifting past, the surface glittering above you, and you are just breathing. Calm. Weightless. Hooked. The best news for travelers? You can have that exact moment in the Exuma Cays even if you have never touched a regulator in your life.

Let us clear up the big fears first

01
"I need to be certified."

Not for your first time. Our Discover Scuba program is built specifically for people with zero experience. You learn the basics with a certified professional right beside you.

02
"I am not a strong swimmer."

You do not need to be an athlete. The gear keeps you buoyant, and your instructor manages depth and pace. Comfort in the water matters more than speed.

03
"What if I panic?"

You start in a controlled, confined-water session before anything else, practicing breathing and simple skills until it feels natural. Your guide never leaves your side.

How your first dive actually unfolds

Meet your instructor and gear up

You will be paired with a certified dive professional who walks you through every piece of equipment. We provide all of it. You bring yourself.

Learn the essentials

A short academic module covers the simple, important basics: how to breathe, how to clear your mask, how to equalize. No exam stress, just the stuff that keeps you comfortable.

Practice in confined water

Before any open water, you will get comfortable in a controlled session, trying out breathing and basic skills until it feels easy.

Take the plunge (optional open-water dive)

Ready for more? Add an open-water dive and descend to a maximum of 40 feet under your instructor's direct supervision, into some of the clearest water on the planet.

Surface grinning

Most first-timers come up wanting to go straight back down. Many decide that day to pursue full certification.

Learn to Scuba, the essentials

  • Program length 1 day (about 1 hour)
  • What is included 1 academic module + confined session
  • Optional open-water dive to 40 ft, supervised
  • Minimum age 10 years +
  • Experience required None

Everything, all materials and all equipment, is included, and your instructor handles the technical side so you can focus on the wonder of it. Add an open-water dive (or two) if you catch the bug, which, fair warning, you probably will.
