The Bahamas is a renowned destination for deep-sea fishing, and the Staniel Cay area is no exception. The rapid depth drop of these islands makes for perfect bottom fishing, with a variety of deepwater dwellers such as queen snapper, blackfin snapper, yellow eye snapper, mystic grouper, yellow edge grouper, wreckfish, and many more to be found.

Caves, holes, ledges, and other structure-oriented habitats line the continental shelf here, making it a veritable paradise for deep-sea anglers. However, there are a few things that visiting anglers should keep in mind in order to ensure a rewarding experience.

Spearfishing in the Exuma Cays
If an adrenaline rush on the water doesn’t cut it for you, then your next adventure should be underwater. Going spearfishing in the Exuma Cays, Bahamas’ stunning reefs is an experience you should treat yourself to at least once in your life.

You can spear various species in these crystal clear waters, including Snapper, Grouper, Hogfish, Lobster, even grab Conch. With your local guide look, you spearfish around reefs and corals.

Deep drop fishing in the Exuma Cays is exactly what it sounds like. Dropping that bait DEEP. Deep dropping can be distinguished from bottom fishing when you are dropping baits deeper than 300 feet. Most anglers who deep drop and have a good depth sounder or good numbers can find an abundance of tasty bottom fish. Deep dropping is often employed as a way to fill the cooler quickly.

Fish caught on the bottom in deeper waters often congregate in large numbers and are good-eating fish and are not hard to get to bite.
